Six main stages in the process

The recorded weight provides a basis for testing and valuation.
Preliminary assessment
The store reviews the item and decides which subsequent steps are appropriate.
Live valuation
Weight, preliminary findings and the current reference price inform an in-store quotation.
Melting
Where applicable and with customer agreement, melting supports further assessment.
Final testing
The final material or sample is assessed using a method appropriate to the item.
Confirmation and payment
The transaction proceeds after the customer confirms the quotation and relevant details.
Note: the sequence can vary according to the item, its condition and the customer’s decision. The actual in-store explanation and procedure take precedence.
Automation, testing instruments and AI are not the same thing
This distinction reduces confusion. Equipment can operate automatically without using generative AI, and an instrument reading should not be interpreted without its testing conditions.
What determines a gold recycling quotation?
- Weight: based on the actual in-store weighing record.
- Fineness: determined through the assessment appropriate to the item.
- Reference gold price: market prices move, so an earlier indication may not equal a later transaction price.
- Item composition: solder, stones and non-gold components can affect the amount of recoverable gold.
